Stop managing annual leave in spreadsheets. Track leave entitlements, calculate pro-rata balances, and approve requests — all in one place, alongside your timesheets.
Every UK employer must provide statutory annual leave. Getting entitlement wrong risks employment tribunal claims and HMRC penalties. TimeTally calculates everything automatically.
28 days (5.6 weeks) paid annual leave per year, which can include bank holidays.
This is the statutory minimum — many employers offer more.
Same 5.6 weeks, pro-rata based on working pattern. 3 days/week = 16.8 days.
TimeTally calculates this automatically for each employee.
Since April 2024, holiday accrues at 12.07% of hours worked per pay period.
Applies to zero-hours contracts, seasonal and term-time staff.

If any of these sound familiar, you need a proper annual leave tracker.
Employees constantly ask because they can't check their own balance. You dig through a spreadsheet and reply hours later.
Part-timers, mid-year starters, and leavers all need pro-rated entitlement. One wrong formula means underpaying or overpaying leave.
Everyone tries to use remaining annual leave in December because no one tracked unused days earlier in the year.
Without a team calendar, you approve annual leave that leaves the business understaffed on key dates.
"I emailed you about my annual leave two weeks ago..." — no centralised system means requests fall through the cracks.
When disputes arise about approved leave or remaining entitlement, there's no record of what was agreed.

All UK workers are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid annual leave per year. For full-time employees working 5 days a week, that equals 28 days. This can include bank holidays. Part-time workers receive the same 5.6 weeks, calculated pro-rata based on their working pattern. TimeTally handles all of these calculations automatically.
TimeTally automatically pro-rates annual leave entitlement based on each employee's contracted hours or days. For example, someone working 3 days a week receives 16.8 days (3 × 5.6). You can also set custom entitlements above the statutory minimum if your company offers additional leave.
UK law allows employees to carry over up to 1.6 weeks (8 days for full-time workers) of unused annual leave into the next leave year, though employers can set stricter policies. TimeTally lets you configure carry-over rules per organisation, including maximum carry-over limits and expiry dates.
Employers can choose whether bank holidays are included in or added on top of the 28-day statutory entitlement. TimeTally supports both approaches and automatically includes the correct bank holidays for England & Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland based on your settings.
For mid-year starters, annual leave is pro-rated based on the number of complete months remaining in the leave year. TimeTally calculates this automatically — just enter the employee's start date and the system works out their proportional entitlement for the remainder of the year.
Since April 2024, irregular-hours and part-year workers (including zero-hours contracts and seasonal staff) accrue holiday at 12.07% of hours worked in each pay period. TimeTally supports this accrual method automatically for employees flagged as irregular-hours workers.
Yes. TimeTally lets you create unlimited custom leave types — annual leave, sick leave, TOIL, compassionate leave, parental leave, study leave, and more. Each type has its own allowance, colour coding, and approval workflow. See our sick leave tracker and TOIL tracker for more details.
