Track time off in lieu for chefs, bar staff, hotel front desk, and management. Manage TOIL balances automatically so Christmas cover, bank holiday shifts, and late-night working are always compensated fairly — and never forgotten.
TimeTally combines TOIL management with annual leave tracking and timesheet software — so your whole hospitality workforce is managed in one place.
Sound familiar? These are the TOIL problems that hospitality managers deal with every week.
A chef works a double on New Year's Eve. Someone writes it on a Post-it. Three weeks later, nobody can agree what was owed — and the Post-it is long gone.
Staff work extra shifts across the festive period and accrue TOIL — but January is still busy, February is quiet but short-staffed, and by March the TOIL has expired unused.
"I thought I had two days banked" is a conversation no manager wants to have. Without a proper system, every TOIL request turns into a negotiation.
Staff who cover bank holidays are promised time off in lieu. But with no formal system, those promises get forgotten — and resentment builds.
You have a policy that TOIL expires after 3 months — but applying it consistently across 20 staff is impossible without a central record.
When a member of staff leaves, accumulated but unused TOIL may need to be paid out. Without accurate records, you're guessing what you owe.
There is no separate TOIL system to learn. Hospitality staff submit TOIL requests through the same app they use for holiday and sick leave. Managers approve in one tap — and the balance updates automatically.

Every TOIL request, approval, and balance change is recorded — no more disputes about what was agreed

Managers can see every employee's TOIL balance, upcoming TOIL bookings, and annual leave all on one calendar. Before approving a TOIL request, check coverage — and never be caught short-staffed during a service.
See both on one calendar so you always have a complete picture of who is off and why
TOIL balances update the moment a request is approved or taken — always accurate
Manage TOIL across multiple venues or sites from one account — ideal for restaurant groups

Configure your TOIL accrual rate, maximum balance, and expiry window — and TimeTally enforces them automatically for every employee. No more inconsistent application of the rules across your team.
Use TimeTally's TOIL management alongside rota software so shift planning and TOIL tracking work together seamlessly.
Popular with hospitality managers: Set TOIL to expire after 90 days and cap balances at 3 days — this keeps balances manageable during peak seasons and prevents large payouts when staff leave.
One price. Every feature. No surprises.
In TimeTally, TOIL is a custom leave type that employees accrue separately from annual leave. When a chef or bar manager works a double shift, the extra hours can be logged and approved as TOIL. The employee then requests TOIL time off through the same app they use for annual leave, and managers approve with one tap.
TimeTally lets you configure your TOIL policy settings, including the accrual rate and maximum balance. You can communicate different rates for different scenarios through your TOIL policy — for example, 1.5:1 for weekend overtime and 2:1 for bank holiday cover — and managers apply the correct rate when approving TOIL accrual.
You can set a maximum TOIL balance and expiry period in your TimeTally policy settings. When balances approach the cap, managers can see this in the dashboard and proactively schedule TOIL time off. This prevents the common issue of staff losing TOIL they earned during busy periods.
Your TOIL policy should specify what happens to unused TOIL on termination — whether it is paid out or forfeited. TimeTally keeps an accurate record of each employee's TOIL balance at any point, making final settlements straightforward regardless of what your policy states.
Yes. Employees log in to the TimeTally iOS app and can see their current TOIL balance alongside their annual leave and any other leave types. They can also submit TOIL requests directly from the app between shifts.
TimeTally costs £2 per employee per month with no setup fees. For a team of 15 hospitality staff, that is £30 per month — less than the cost of resolving a single TOIL dispute. There is a free 14-day trial with no credit card required.
