How does TOIL work for retail staff who work irregular hours?

Retail staff log their actual hours in TimeTally. When hours exceed their contracted amount for a week or period, the excess is submitted for TOIL accrual. Managers approve the accrual with the applicable rate — 1:1 for standard overtime or 1.5:1 for Sunday or bank holiday working, depending on your store policy.

Can we manage TOIL separately for part-time and full-time staff?

Yes. Each employee has their own TOIL balance calculated against their contracted hours. A part-time worker contracted to 20 hours will accrue TOIL when they work more than 20 hours in a week — tracked separately from a full-time colleague contracted to 37.5 hours.

How do we handle TOIL accrued during Christmas peak trading?
